HOMEWORK

Your child will have homework nightly but will not have to turn it in. I see homework as a way to value education at home and spend a small amount of time bonding over it. I would like both Kindergarten students and 1st grade students to spend a minimum of 15 minutes reading and being read to 5 nights a week. They should also spend approximately 5 minutes doing one of the following.

All students:

  • Practicing neat handwriting with numbers and letters

  • Counting

  • Coloring

  • Cutting

Kindergarten students:

  • Identifying Upper and Lower Case Letters

  • Practicing Letter Sounds

  • Practicing Sight words

1st Grade students:

  • Practice basic addition and subtraction

  • Read sight words

  • Spell sight words

BIRTHDAYS AND PARTIES

I know that birthdays and parties can be a fun and exciting thing for our students. In order to make things run efficiently and consider the medical needs and allergies of my students I require a few things when it comes to birthday treats in the classroom. Please make sure that treats are brought in sometime during the morning. We will celebrate any birthdays in the last 15 minutes of class time. Parties generally take place toward the end of the day. Please use the following guidelines when bringing in treats:

  • Store bought with ingredients and nutritional facts listed

  • Individually packaged (ex. Hostess, snack packs, baby carrot packs, individual apples, fruit snacks, etc.)

  • No cakes or cupcakes as they are not individually packaged

DAILY SNACK

We will have a daily afternoon snack time. If you would like your child to have a snack at this time please send in a healthy snack. Candy is not allowed. You may choose to send in a snack everyday or send in a box of snacks for them to put in their cubby.

FOLDERS

Folders will be sent home on Friday with important school information and work your child has completed throughout the week. Please be sure to send it back to school on Monday morning.
